Posco Begins to Build Processing Center in Alabama
Feb. 8, 2010 - The steelmaker recently broke ground for Posco-AAPC, a 120,000-tonne-per-year processing facility inside the Jefferson Metropolitan Industrial Complex in the city of Birmingham, Ala. The facility is scheduled to open in July.

Tata Steel Posts Production and Sales Growth
Feb. 8, 2010 - Tata Steel surpassed 600,000 tonnes monthly finished steel production for the first time in January 2010, with 607,000 tonnes of saleable steel representing an 11% increase over last January’s production of 548,000 tonnes.
ArcelorMittal South Africa Announces Changes to Board
Feb. 8, 2010 - ArcelorMittal South Africa has announced the appointment of Johnson Njeke, who has served as independent non-executive director on its board since January 2002, as full-time chairman. He replaces Dr. Khotso Mokhele. The company also welcomes Malcolm Macdonald as an independent, non-executive director to its board.

Siemens Modernizes Rolling Mill for Italian Structural Steelmaker
Feb. 5, 2010 - Feralpi Siderurgica SpA has placed an order with Siemens VAI Metals Technologies for a new intermediate mill for its rebar rolling mill No. 1. The plant will be able to roll billets with a larger cross-section when the modernization project is completed in fall 2010.
Tenova to Supply Electrolytic Lines in China
Feb. 5, 2010 - Yi Chang Three Gorges Quan Tong Colored and Galvanized Plate Co. Ltd. has awarded contracts to Tenova for the supply of two high-speed Electrolytic Tinning Lines equipped with insoluble anodes technology and two high-speed Electrolytic Chromium Coating Lines.
Severstal to Supply Large-Diameter Pipes for ESPO-II
Feb. 5, 2010 - Severstal will supply large-diameter pipes for the second phase of the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO) oil pipeline. When completed, the pipeline will carry oil to Russia’s Far East and Asia-Pacific markets.

Steel Dynamics Reports 4th Quarter, 2009 Results
Feb. 4, 2010 - Steel Dynamics reported net income of $26.7 million on net sales of $1.2 billion for the fourth quarter and a net loss of $8.2 million on net sales of $4.0 billion for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2009.
Steel Import Permits Rise 12% in January
Feb. 4, 2010 - Steel import applications reached 1,537,000 net tons for the month of January, a 12% increase from the 1,377,000 permit tons recorded in December 2009 according to the latest report from AISI.
Outokumpu Appoints Head of Tornio Works
Feb. 4, 2010 - Hannu Hautala has been appointed Senior Vice President - Tornio Works as of May 2, 2010, at the latest. He will report to CEO Juha Rantanen and will succeed Pekka Erkkilä, who has been temporarily responsible for Tornio Works since September 15, 2009.

Feb. 4, 2010 - The 45th final of the German competition Jugend forscht (“young people researching”) is taking place in Essen in May 2010. For the third time, ThyssenKrupp is hosting the nationwide competition.
Outotec to Deliver Sintering Technology for JSW Steel
Feb. 4, 2010 - Outotec has signed a contract for the delivery of sintering technology for JSW Steel Ltd.'s new iron ore sinter plant to be built in Toranagallu, India. The new plant is expected to produce annually around 2.3 million tonnes of iron sinter.
Tenova I2S Cluster Mill Commissioned in U.S.
Feb. 4, 2010 - Tenova I2S has commissioned a new ZR33-22” mill at MK Metalfoils USA in Duncan, S.C. MK Metalfoils runs stainless steels and special materials (e.g., nickel and nickel alloys, catalyst foils, titanium) in thicknesses down to 0.020 mm.
AIST Presents 2010 Energy Achievement Award
Feb. 3, 2010 - The AIST Energy and Utilities Technology Committee recently presented the 2010 Energy Achievement Award to Michael T. Lantz of ArcelorMittal Shelby. ArcelorMittal Shelby received the award for its work to implement Linde REBOX® oxyfuel solutions on its rotary hearth furnace.
Timken Reports 2009 Results, 2010 Outlook
Feb. 3, 2010 - The Timken Co. reported a net loss of $20.2 million on sales of $774.6 million for the fourth quarter and a net loss of $134.0 million on sales of $3.1 billion for the year 2009.
Metals USA Reports Q4, Year-End Results
Feb. 3, 2010 - Metals USA Holdings Corp. reported a fourth quarter net loss of $4.4 million compared to a net loss of $7.0 million in fourth quarter 2008. For the 2009 fiscal year, the company's net income was $3.5 million vs. net income for fiscal 2008 of $72.6 million.
Outokumpu Products Have Small Carbon Footprint
Feb. 3, 2010 - Outokumpu cites the recent Life Cycle Inventory Study on Stainless Steel Production in the EU showing that its stainless steel products have the smallest carbon footprint, in general 10 to 20% smaller than the EU average.

Feb. 3, 2010 - Posco’s accumulated sales to Zhongshan Zhongyue Tinplate Industrial Co. recently reached the 1 million-tonne mark. Posco has been supplying black plates to the Chinese company since 1992.
