NLMK Launches New Environmental Project at Sintering Operations
Jul. 29, 2010 Novolipetsk Steel is revamping the central dust collecting system for sintering machines No.3 and No.4, which it claims will cut total atmospheric dust emissions at the Lipetsk site by 28%.
The two sintering machines have a total capacity of more than 7.3 million tonnes per annum. Due to their gradual modernization, the facilities’ impact on the environment will be decreased by 1.4 times, according to NLMK. Obsolete equipment will be replaced by modern electric precipitators supplied by Alstom Power. Fe-containing dust trapped by the filters will be recycled and used for sinter production.
The company notes that 1640 tonnes of equipment will be installed for this new environmental project, which is part of the second stage of NLMK's Technical Upgrade Program. About RUR1.2 billion of total investment will be required.
The first stage (Sintering Machine No.4) is scheduled for commissioning in Q2 2011, with the second (Sintering Machine No.3) in Q3 2012. The old equipment is currently being dismantled.
