Jul. 30, 2010 - Lakeside Steel Inc. announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Thomasville, Ala. Once fully operational, the new facility is expected to add 192,000 tons of capacity, approximately doubling the company's total production capacity.

Allegheny Technologies Announces Executive Appointments
Jul. 30, 2010 - L. Patrick Hassey, Chairman and CEO of Allegheny Technologies Inc., has announced that effective August 1, 2010, Richard J. Harshman will become President and Chief Operating Officer. He will report to Hassey. Dale G. Reid has been named Senior Vice President, Finance and Principal Financial Officer of ATI, also reporting to Hassey.

Horsehead Provides Update on Operations at PA Plant
Jul. 30, 2010 - Horsehead Holding Corp. announced that the zinc refinery at its Monaca, Pa., facility remains on temporary shutdown pending completion of an investigation and assessment of the damage. It could take several months for production capabilities in the refining facility to be fully restored.

PTC Alliance Employees Ratify New Collective Bargaining Agreements
Jul. 30, 2010 - Employees at PTC Alliance facilities in Alliance, Ohio, and Darlington, Pa., have ratified new collective bargaining agreements. The new agreements will enable PTC Alliance to complete the sale of its assets to funds managed by Black Diamond Capital Management, which was authorized earlier this year by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.

Posco Opens New Processing Center in China
Jul. 30, 2010 - Posco has completed the construction of Posco-CLPC, the new processing center at the EU Economic Development Zone in Shenyang, China, and started operations the same day. The new facility will process 170,000 tonnes of steel annually.

Allegheny Technologies Announces Q2 2010 Results
Jul. 29, 2010 - Allegheny Technologies Inc. reported net income for the second quarter 2010 of $36.4 million, or $0.36 per share, on sales of $1.05 billion. This compares favorably to last year’s Q2 net loss, including special charges, of $13.4 million, or $0.14 per share, on sales of $710.0 million.

Jul. 28, 2010 - U.S. Steel reported a net loss of $25 million on net sales of $4.7 billion for the second quarter, and a net loss of $182 million on net sales of $8.6 billion for the first six months of 2010.

Siemens Receives Order from ATI for Integrated Hot-Rolling Mill
Jul. 28, 2010 - Allegheny Technologies Inc. awarded a contract to Siemens VAI Metals Technologies GmbH to design, engineer, and supply a complete integrated hot-rolling mill on a process turn-key basis. The new mill will be part of a new advanced specialty metals hot-rolling and processing facility, and will be built at ATI Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge, Pa.

JFE Steel, JSW Steel Take First Step in Strategic Cooperation
Jul. 28, 2010 - JFE Steel Corp. and JSW Steel Ltd. have signed agreements for JFE Steel to take an equity position in JSW Steel and to provide the Indian steelmaker with technical assistance. JFE Steel, through this partnership, now expects to participate on a full scale in India.

Jul. 27, 2010 - Atul Chaturvedi, Secretary of the Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India, and Steel Authority of India Ltd. Chairman C.S. Verma laid the foundation stone of a TMT (thermo mechanically treated) Bar Mill of 150,000-tonne-per-annum capacity, as part of SAIL's plan to revive and develop the steel plant of former Malvika Steel Ltd.

Kobe Steel Completes 10,000-Tonne Forging Press
Jul. 27, 2010 - Kobe Steel, Ltd. has completed the construction of a 10,000-tonne forging press line at its Takasago Works in Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan. A manipulator, heating furnace, heat treatment furnace, crane, and other equipment were also installed.

JFE Steel to Acquire Stake in Pancheng Yihong Pipe
Jul. 27, 2010 - JFE Steel Corp. has agreed with Pancheng Yihong Pipe Co. to acquire a 24% stake in the Sichuan, China-based processor of high-quality seamless pipes for oilfields, by purchasing newly issued shares. JFE Steel’s 24% share will turn the company into a JFE Steel affiliate under equity-method accounting.

Stainless Steel Imports Up 53% through April 2010
Jul. 26, 2010 - Total stainless steel imports reached 183,761 tons for YTD April 2010 a 52.8% increase compared to the comparable year-ago period according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) were up 37.8% through the same period.

ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe Supplies Steel for Hydroelectric Power
Jul. 26, 2010 - ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG is supplying 17,000 tonnes of high-strength, quenched and tempered plate to the Ingula pumped storage scheme project of the South African power utility Eskom. The steel will be used to manufacture piping up to 5.1 meters in diameter for the scheme.
