AIIS Says U.S. Port System Needs Dredging and Maintenance
Apr. 10, 2013 - The American Institute for International Steel (AIIS) is urging Congress to action on a pressing need to pass the Water Resources Development Act, with a particular focus on the provision that would require the full expenditure of funds collected under the Harbor Maintenance Fee (HMF) for the purpose for which it has always been intended — dredging and maintenance of the country's blue and brown water ports.

SEAISI: Apparent Steel Consumption in ASEAN Region Rose 7.6% in 2012
Apr. 9, 2013 - According to the South East Asia Iron & Steel Institute (SEASI), apparent steel consumption in the ASEAN region (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam) is estimated to have surged by 7.6% y-o-y to 56.4 million tonnes in 2012.

Mar. 20, 2013 - World crude steel production for the 63 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 123 million tonnes in February 2013, an increase of 1.2% compared to February 2012.
North American Service Center Shipments Fell in February
Mar. 19, 2013 - Steel shipments from U.S. service centers during the month of February declined almost 8% from a year ago while declines in U.S. service center aluminum shipments declined by just over 12%, the Metals Service Center Institute reported.
January 2013 U.S. Steel Mill Shipments at Highest Monthly Amount Since August 2012
Mar. 18, 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of January 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,210,726 tons, a 9.7% increase from the 7,483,120 tons shipped in the previous month, December 2012, and a 3.4% decrease from the 8,497,932 tons shipped in January 2012.

European Steel Industry Calls for End to 'One Size Fits All' Emissions Trading Policy
Jul. 24, 2012 - On Wednesday, 25 July, the European Commission is expected to adopt a proposal revising the EU emissions trading system giving the Commission “carte blanche” to interfere in the system to artificially increase the allowance price by reducing the amount of CO2 allowances put on the market.
