Steel Import Permits Decrease 15% in August Sep. 2, 2010 - Steel import permit applications reached a total of 2,082,000 net tons for August, a 15% decrease from the 2,436,000 permit tons recorded in July and a 14% decrease from the July preliminary imports total of 2,415,000 net tons, according to the latest report from AISI.

Horsehead Updates Restart Schedule for PA Refining Facility Sep. 2, 2010 - Horsehead Holding Corp. noted that the Monaca, Pa., plant's zinc oxide and metal refinery remains temporarily shut down. Regarding zinc oxide production, the company currently expects to restart all four Larvik furnaces by the end of September; it expects to restart the zinc oxide and refined zinc metal columns in stages starting in November.

Metal Shipment Growth Rate Slows in July 2010 Aug. 18, 2010 - The rate of growth of steel and aluminum shipments from metals service centers in the United States and Canada slowed in July, according to the latest Metals Activity Report from the Metals Service Center Institute. Russel Metals Reports Stronger Q2 2010 Net Earnings Aug. 12, 2010 - Russel Metals Inc. announced second-quarter earnings of $19 million, or $0.31 per share, an improvement of $0.28 per share from the first quarter of 2010. These results were stronger than both the comparable adjusted net earnings for the second quarter of 2009 of $0.10 per share and the reported loss of $0.41 per share.

AK Steel Announces Carbon Steel Price Increase, September Surcharges Aug. 3, 2010 - AK Steel is increasing current spot market base prices by $40 per ton, effective immediately with all new orders for carbon steel products. The company also announced that it would be adding a $350 per ton surcharge for electrical steel products shipped in September 2010.
