Mechel Commissions New Production Complex
Jul. 26, 2010 - Mechel OAO announced that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin pushed the start button of a high-quality and stainless steel production complex in the arc-furnace melting shop #6 of Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant.
SMS Siemag Commissions 4th Slab Caster at Salzgitter Flachstahl
Jul. 9, 2010 - SMS Siemag has successfully commissioned the fourth XCast continuous slab caster for Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. The single-strand circular-arc design caster produces slabs in widths ranging from 1100 to 2600 mm and in thicknesses of 250 and 350 mm.
Siemens to Modernize Slab Steel Works in Indonesia
Jun. 22, 2010 - Siemens has received an order from PT Krakatau Steel of Cilegon, Indonesia, to completely modernize its slab steel works no. 1. The modernized works is scheduled to come into production in the summer of 2012.
JFE Steel Expands Steelmaking Capacity of West Japan Works' Fukuyama Area
Jun. 17, 2010 - JFE Steel is now operating a new single-strand continuous slab casting machine and slab scarfing machine at the Fukuyama Works, bringing the company one step closer to its targeted annual crude-steel production capacity of 33 million tonnes.
ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih, Siemens Begin Construction of CCM
Jun. 3, 2010 - ArcelorMittal, ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih, and Siemens VAI jointly announced that construction of the first Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) at the ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih has begun. Capacity of the new CCM will be over 1.2 million tonnes of steel per year; start-up is targeted for September 2011.
Arvedi Grants Acceptance to Siemens for Endless Strip Line
May 12, 2010 - Acciaieria Arvedi SpA has issued the Final Acceptance Certificate to Siemens VAI for its new Arvedi ESP line in Cremona, which has successfully cast 80-mm thin strands at speeds in excess of six meters per minute and endlessly rolled hot strip down to a thickness of 0.8 mm.
SMS Meer, SMS Concast to Supply Steelworks Complex in Bahrain
May 6, 2010 - United Steel Co. placed an order with SMS Meer and SMS Concast for the design and supply of a turnkey minimill plant for beams and sections in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The project, to be carried out with Samsung Engineering, is scheduled for completion by 2012.
AK Steel Employees Set World Casting Record
May 6, 2010 - AK Steel employees at Middletown have set a world record for consecutive heats of carbon steel continuously cast on either a single- or double-strand caster.  Crews cast 474,131 tons of carbon steel slabs in 2156 consecutive heats over a 59-day sequence.
