SMS Siemag to Extend X-Melt Converter Shop at Dragon Steel
May 28, 2010 - Dragon Steel Corp. has placed an order with SMS Siemag to supply the third 230-tonne converter as part of the extension of the carbon steel plant (Phase II). The third converter is scheduled to be commissioned in 2012.
Dragon Steel Orders RH-TOP Unit from SMS Mevac
May 26, 2010 - Dragon Steel of Taichung, Taiwan, has awarded SMS Mevac a contract to supply a second RH-TOP unit, which is the expansion of the secondary metallurgical key equipment for the new BOF steelworks.
Praxair Canada to Supply Essar Steel Algoma
May 20, 2010 - Praxair Canada and Essar Steel Algoma sign a long-term supply agreement for the design and construction of a cryogenic air separation plant that will supply 900 tons per day of gaseous oxygen to Algoma’s Sault Ste. Marie steelmaking plant.
Corus Invests in Steelworks to Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions
May 13, 2010 - Corus recently launched a new plant at its Port Talbot steelworks that will reduce the site’s carbon dioxide emissions by some 240,000 tonnes per year, completing a £60 million investment.

Apr. 28, 2010 - voestalpine Stahl GmbH continued its EUR 700 million investment program “L6” in the 2009/10 business year, despite the poor economic climate. About one-half of all the L6 projects, which extend the annual crude steel production from 5.5 million to approximately 6 million tonnes, were implemented.
Siemens Receives New Order for Dry Dedusting System in China
Apr. 9, 2010 - A steel producer from Northern China has ordered a dry dedusting system from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies that is to be installed in an LD steel works. The project also includes a gas recovery system that collects and treats the converter gas for subsequent power generation.
NLMK Launches Final Stage of Environmental Project
Mar. 18, 2010 - Novolipetsk Steel has begun the final stage of reconstructing the gas exhaust ducts at BOF Shop No.1 at its main production site in Lipetsk, the goal of which is to improve operational reliability and reduce the company’s environmental impact.
Siemens Replaces LD Converters at CSN
Mar. 11, 2010 - Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) has placed an order with Siemens for the replacement of two LD converters at its Volta Redonda location. Turnkey delivery of the converters is planned during the summer of 2011 and at the end of 2012, respectively.
