AK Steel's Coshocton Works Recognized for Outstanding Safety Performance
Apr. 25, 2012 - The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, Division of Safety and Hygiene has recognized AK Steel's Coshocton Works for operating 2,952,729 hours without a lost-time injury between February 20, 2008 and August 5, 2011.

Apr. 13, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Labor has reached a settlement agreement with Republic Steel Inc. resolving citations issued by the department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration in May 2011 for violations found at the company's facility in Lorain, Ohio.

Apr. 11, 2012 - ArcelorMittal recently began a month-long campaign to raise awareness of road and rail safety within the mine area and along the railway corridor between Yekepa and the port of Buchanan, Liberia.

Mar. 29, 2012 - The Columbus, Ind., and Walbridge, Ohio, plants of AK Tube LLC have each received the "Safety Award of Merit" from the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International (FMA), a leading trade organization that serves the metal forming and fabricating industry.
OSHA Cites JSW’s Baytown Plant for Safety and Health Hazards
Mar. 8, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited JSW Steel (USA) Inc. with 11 repeat, 23 serious, and two other-than-serious violations for exposing employees to safety and health hazards at the company’s facility in Baytown. Proposed penalties total $469,420.

Feb. 28, 2012 - Sandvik Materials Technology announced the appointment of Christian Hörnkvist as Global Manager Environment, Health and Safety.
Outokumpu Reports Radiation Incident at Tornio Site
Feb. 27, 2012 - Outokumpu's Tornio melting furnace was recently exposed to a source of radiation that has since been identified as americium. Four meltshop employees were exposed to radiation as they entered the melting furnace during maintenance work.
Severstal NA Honored by SMA for Zero Lost Time Accidents at Severstal Columbus
Feb. 10, 2012 - The Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) has selected Severstal North America to receive a safety award in recognition of Zero Lost Time Accidents (LTA) at the company’s Columbus, Miss., facility.
Vale Employees Return to Sudbury Mines
Feb. 8, 2012 - Vale announced that employees have begun returning to the company’s five Sudbury area mines following a temporary suspension of operations to focus on safety. Operations were temporarily suspended after an employee was fatally injured on January 29.
