Safety BHP Billiton Iron Ore Reports Fatality at Port Operations

BHP Billiton Iron Ore reports that a significant incident occurred on Thursday, July 7 at the company’s port operations in Port Hedland, Western Australia. The incident resulted in a fatality.
 
The company said that the onsite emergency team has been activated and external emergency services including police are attending the scene. The company noted that it would be unable to provide any further detail about the incident at this stage, but that it would do so as soon as possible. 
 
At the time of the announcement, the company’s port and rail operations were in the process of being suspended until further notice.
 
The company has established an information line for employees.
