World Production worldsteel Publishes 2010 World Steel in Figures

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has published the 2010 edition of World Steel in Figures.

World Steel in Figures provides essential facts and statistics about the global steel industry, including comprehensive information on crude steel production, apparent steel use, pig iron production, steel trade, iron ore production and trade, and scrap trade. The publication also includes an update on sustainability indicators for the world steel industry.
 
Top steel-producing countries and worldsteel member companies are also highlighted in World Steel in Figures. As detailed in the 2010 edition, the top five steel-producing countries for 2009 were China (46.3% of total 2009 production), Japan (7.1% of total), India (5.1%), Russia (4.9%) and the U.S. (4.7%). Total world production was 1,226.5 million tonnes in 2009, down from 1,329.0 million tonnes in 2008.

 Top steel-producing worldsteel member companies are also highlighted in World Steel in Figures. For 2009, the five largest steel-producing worldsteel member companies were ArcelorMittal (6.3% of total 2009 production), Baosteel (2.6% of total), Posco (2.5%), Nippon Steel (2.2%), and JFE (2.1%).
 
The 2010 edition of World Steel in Figures is now available from the online Bookshop at worldsteel.org. A PDF copy of the book can be downloaded from the website and printed copies can be ordered from the bookshop.
 
*Tonnages include all steel types (including stainless), and are based on worldsteel reporting rules as regards part-owned steelworks.
 
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. worldsteel represents approximately 180 steel producers (including 19 of the world's 20 largest steel companies), national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes. worldsteel members produce around 85% of the world's steel.
