Feb. 16, 2010 - The first stage of the new Danieli SBQ (Special Bar Quality) mill at CMC Zawiercie started operation at the end of 2009. Initially the new mill is designed to feed the existing wire rod production outlet.
Pomina, Thep Viet Steel Group Select Tenova Melt Shops
Feb. 16, 2010 - Tenova Melt Shops has been chosen by Pomina and Thep Viet Steel Group to supply a new melt shop unit with a Consteel® EAF. The melt shop is scheduled to be put in operation at the end of 2011 in Phu My Industrial Zone, near Ho Chi Minh City.

Injuries Down in ArcelorMittal Companies
Feb. 15, 2010 - In 2009, the total number of injuries with lost work days in ArcelorMittal Ostrava was nine, compared with a previous 21 injuries. The rolling mills of ArcelorMittal Frýdek-Místek reported no injury with lost work days last year.
New Paint Shop for Ruukki's Unit in Jászberény
Feb. 15, 2010 - Ruukki plans to invest in a new paint shop and packaging-dispatch department to serve engineering customers at the Jászberény plant in Hungary. The paint shop is expected to come on stream in fall 2010.

New Danieli Special Steels Rolling Mill for Bhushan
Feb. 12, 2010 - Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd. has selected Danieli as supplier for its new 500,000-tonnes-per-year rolling mill plant to be installed in the state of Orissa, India, for production of specialty and engineering steel long products. Startup is scheduled for the end of 2010.
Air Liquide Signs Long-term Contracts with Two Steel Producers in China
Feb. 12, 2010 - Air Liquide says it will invest €75 million to support new long-term contracts just signed with steel producers Bohai Steel Group and Jianbang Group, both in China.

Posco Green Growth Committee Declares Emissions Reduction Goals
Feb. 9, 2010 - Posco has decided to cut down on carbon dioxide emissions by 9% based on the average of the three most recent years by 2020, as well as to reduce 14 million tonnes of social carbon emissions through manufacturing of energy-efficient steel products and green growth businesses.
Linde Technology Helps ArcelorMittal Garner AIST Award
Feb. 9, 2010 - REBOX® oxyfuel technology developed and deployed by Linde North America has helped ArcelorMittal win the AIST 2009 Energy Achievement Award for its efforts to reduce fuel consumption by nearly two-thirds in the billet reheating operation at its Shelby, Ohio, seamless tube mill.
ArcelorMittal South Africa Announces Changes to Board
Feb. 8, 2010 - ArcelorMittal South Africa has announced the appointment of Johnson Njeke, who has served as independent non-executive director on its board since January 2002, as full-time chairman. Tata Steel Posts Production and Sales Growth
Feb. 8, 2010 - Tata Steel surpassed 600,000 tonnes monthly finished steel production for the first time in January 2010, with 607,000 tonnes of saleable steel representing an 11% increase over last January’s production of 548,000 tonnes.
Severstal to Supply Large-Diameter Pipes for ESPO-II
Feb. 5, 2010 - Severstal will supply large-diameter pipes for the second phase of the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO) oil pipeline. When completed, the pipeline will carry oil to Russia’s Far East and Asia-Pacific markets.

Siemens Modernizes Rolling Mill for Italian Structural Steelmaker
Feb. 5, 2010 - Feralpi Siderurgica SpA has placed an order with Siemens VAI Metals Technologies for a new intermediate mill for its rebar rolling mill No. 1. The plant will be able to roll billets with a larger cross-section when the modernization project is completed in fall 2010.
Outotec to Deliver Sintering Technology for JSW Steel
Feb. 4, 2010 - Outotec has signed a contract for the delivery of sintering technology for JSW Steel Ltd.'s new iron ore sinter plant to be built in Toranagallu, India. The new plant is expected to produce annually around 2.3 million tonnes of iron sinter.

Outokumpu Products Have Small Carbon Footprint
Feb. 3, 2010 - Outokumpu cites the recent Life Cycle Inventory Study on Stainless Steel Production in the EU showing that its stainless steel products have the smallest carbon footprint, in general 10 to 20% smaller than the EU average.
SMS Meer Commissions ERW Tube Welding Line at Arvedi

Sumitomo Wins Contract to Supply UOE Line Pipe

World Crude Steel Output Decreases by 8.0% in 2009
Jan. 25, 2010 - Despite a 13.5% year-on-year increase in crude steel production from China, world crude steel production decreased by about 8.0% in 2009 compared to 2008, with an estimated production total of 1220 million tonnes.

Handan Orders Wire Rod Outlet from Siemens
Jan. 20, 2010 - Handan Iron & Steel Co. has ordered a wire rod outlet from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies for a rolling mill in its Handan Works. The new equipment will enable Handan to produce rods from 5 to 22 mm in diameter, with the capability to expand to 25-mm rod, and rebar from 6 to 16 mm.
Yichang Three Gorges Orders Continuous Annealing Lines from SMS Siemag
Jan. 20, 2010 - Yichang Three Gorges Quantong Colored and Galvanized Plate Co., Ltd. has placed an order with SMS Siemag for the supply of two continuous annealing lines. Both lines will process ultra-thin sheet, which will then be electroplated and used as packaging material.
ArcelorMittal Supports Emergency Intervention in Haiti
Jan. 19, 2010 - The ArcelorMittal Foundation supports an intervention from the organization Médecins sans frontières for the victims affected by the earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The Foundation will donate US$100,000 to enable this intervention, which aims to address the needs of around 70,000 people.

Kobe Steel Begins Production using ITmk3 Process
Jan. 18, 2010 - The world's first commercial plant using Kobe Steel’s ITmk3 process successfully began production of iron nuggets in the United States on January 12. Production is expected to reach the facility's annual design capacity of 500,000 tonnes in mid-2010.
Corus to Extend Teesside Operations
