ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe Welcomes 328 New Apprentices
Sep. 3, 2010 - ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG has taken on 328 new apprentices in 19 occupations with the startup this week of its latest apprentice training year. To ease the transition from school to working life, all newcomers attend a week-long initiation course in which they meet other apprentices, learn about the company, and spend time focusing on workplace health and safety.

Vale Signs Railroad and Port Contracts

Corus Increases Aerospace Steel Prices
Sep. 1, 2010 - Corus Specialty Steels has increased transaction prices for its aerospace products by between 4% and 10% on orders acknowledged for delivery after January 1, 2011. The price increase will apply to the full range of air melted and remelted products in ingot, slab, billet, bar, and coil form.

Gerdau Açominas Selects Tenova to Supply Walking Beam Furnaces
Aug. 27, 2010 - Gerdau Açominas and Tenova LOI Italimpianti have agreed upon the supply of two walking beam furnaces for slabs to be installed in the new Plate/Steckel mills of the Gerdau Açominas Plant in Ouro Branco, Brazil. The furnaces will each have a production capacity of 220/265 tonnes per hour.

ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Produces Stainless Steel for Financial-Center Facades
Aug. 27, 2010 - Construction of a new business district on Sowwah Island is progressing, including a five-building complex housing the United Arab Emirates’ new financial center. Tenova to Supply Roll Shop for Bokaro Steel Plant

Siemens Receives Order from Gerdau Açominas for Rolling Mills
Aug. 26, 2010 - Gerdau Açominas has ordered a plate mill and a Steckel mill from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies, to be constructed at Ouro Branco in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A second strand will also be added to the existing Siemens VAI continuous slab caster that initiated production a year ago.

Aug. 24, 2010 - Tata Steel has broken ground for the Gopalpur Industrial Park in southern Odisha. The company has proposed anchor investments of Rs 1000 crore for a 50,000-tonnes-per-annum Ferro Chrome Plant and a 400,000-tonnes-per-annum Rebar Steel Mill at the park.

SAIL Commissions Second Ladle Furnace at Rourkela Steel Plant
Aug. 24, 2010 - Steel Authority of India Ltd. Chairman C.S. Verma has inaugurated the second ladle furnace of Steel Melting Shop-II at Rourkela Steel Plant. The 150-tonne ladle furnace will enhance the production capacity from the current 1.68 million tonnes per annum to 1.85 million tonnes of liquid steel per annum.

Siemens to Supply Rourkela with RH Vacuum Degassing Plant
Aug. 17, 2010 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from SAIL to supply an RH vacuum degassing plant to the Rourkela Steel Works in the state of Orissa. The new plant, which will enable production of high-quality steel grades up to cold-rolled non-oriented types, is scheduled to come into operation by mid-2012.

ThyssenKrupp Reports Nine-Month, Q3 Results for 2009/10
Aug. 16, 2010 - ThyssenKrupp reported that order intake and sales increased quarter-by-quarter, and in the first nine months of 2009/2010 were up from the prior-year period. Order intake increased by 8% to €30.6 billion for the first nine months, and sales were 1% higher at €31.1 billion.

CSN Reports Q2 2010 Results
Aug. 12, 2010 - Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional posted net income of R$894 million for the second quarter of 2010, an increase of 85%, or R$412 million, compared to Q1 2010. Net revenue totaled R$3.9 billion, up 22% compared to the first quarter, chiefly due to an 86% upturn in mining revenue. Steel revenue increased 8% in the same period.

Siemens Slab Caster Starts Up at Qinhuangdao Shouqin
Aug. 5, 2010 - A slab caster capable of casting slabs in thicknesses up to 400 mm was recently started up at the steelworks of the Qinhuangdao Shouqin Metal Material Co., Ltd. in China. Siemens VAI received the order in June 2008 for a straight-mold, vertical-bending-type slab caster capable of casting up to 1.1 million tonnes of steel per year.

SSAB Reports Second Quarter 2010 Results
Aug. 5, 2010 - SSAB reported that second quarter 2010 sales increased by 66% to SEK 10,911 million, compared to SEK 6,583 million for the same period last year. An operating profit of SEK 708 million is a significant improvement over last year’s operating loss of SEK 952 million.
