World Andec, Kamastal Upgrade with Danieli Equipment

Feb. 22, 2010
The upgrading of Andec-Acerias Nacionales del Ecuador steelworks in Guayaquil was completed in December 2009 with the start of operation of a new 25-tonne Danieli ladle furnace (LF) and the associated fume dedusting plant.

The tight-roof LF is equipped with wire feeders, inert-gas bottom stirring, automatic sampling, temperature measurement devices, plus lance for emergency stirring. The new dedusting plant, installed to serve the existing electric arc furnace and the new LF, is designed to achieve dust emissions of less than 10 mg/Nm3 at the stack.

Danieli Automation has supplied the Level 1 automation to ensure proper equipment operation and complete control of the refining process.

In a separate announcement, the existing Kamastal Metallurgical Works Ltd. steelmaking facilities in Perm (part of Motovilikha Plants Corp.) have been modernized and expanded with the installation of a new Danieli secondary refining station.

The scope of the project was to increase the range of steel grades produced, including new products for different purposes, such as oil, metallurgical, transport, mining, and nuclear industries. Most significant steel grades processed are high-strength low-alloy, special medium- and high-alloyed steel, and extra low carbon grades.

The new processing unit, successfully started up in November 2009, is made up of a 60-tonne, single-tank, 5.2-m tank diameter Vacuum Degassing plant, with 116,000 m3/h suction flow capacity, complete with auxiliaries, material handling, dust collection, and Level 2 automation system.
